One Week Anniversary
Well, I've been here a week, officially. It's so much fun here in Japan! Today I went grocery shopping with the student that's just moved in next door today. Back when I started studying the language, I had no idea that it would get to the point where I could navigate the supermarket and ask the staff questions...It's amazing!
Anyway tonight is special because I'm going to cook my first proper meal: I have what look like chicken kebabs, with a potato, some carrots, and some beans. We're taking it up a notch.
You see, for the past week, I was mostly eating convenience store food, such as instant noodles. Don't worry though, the convenience stores have healthier food too: You can buy a tray of food for around 5 bucks that is a complete meal and you just have to heat it up in a microwave.
Another cool thing about convenience stores here is that the staff offer to heat your food up for you! Also, a store I was in yesterday near the church had kettles for customers to heat up their own instant noodles!
Speaking of food, last night, I went out to dinner with a group of at least 20 church people. Of all the restaurants we could have gone to in international Japan, we went to...Sizzler!
They have Sizzler! I couldn't believe it! So we all had the buffet. I ate so much. Just like old times! (It was also a good opportunity to eat lots of vegetables of which I hadn't eaten much since I've arrived.) They had little packets of jam that said, 'Made in Australia'.
Anyway, speaking of church, there are quite a few Australians there, so it was really cool to be able to talk at breakneck speed again, with slang and everything! (Even with all the English-speaking internationals that I live with, I have to choose my words carefully...) It's been a while since I've heard anyone use the word 'fully' to describe something! Ah, you can't fully appreciate your nationality until you go somewhere else, I reckon!
